Moai are statues found on Easter Island carved from stone. Most of the monolithic statue of the manifold, or carved from one stone building, although there also have a separate additional Pukau stone placed at its head. There are over 600 Moai scattered throughout the island. Most of the statues are carved from soft volcanic rock embedded in the Rano Raraku, where the remaining approximately 400 other statues that have not been so. The mine was apparently abandoned suddenly. Almost all the statues that have been completed are carved and then destroyed by the local indigenous population in the period after the end of construction.
